The Club Championship 2017 connects the ten monthly tournaments in 2017. Why ten and not twelve? Because the club gatherings in the summer months July and August do not count for the championship.
Compared to 2016, we’ve decided to go for a new, exciting format. There are three seasons: Winter (January to March), Spring (April to June) and Autumn (September to November). The three seasons’ winners plus a fourth player will fight things out in December.
The winner of the event will gain immortality as the 2017 Backgammon Club Leuven champion, successor of 2016’s champion Kristoffer De Weert. Although we call it the “club championship”, you don’t need to be a club member to participate or even to win the title!
Dates and venue
Depending on the month, we play on Friday evenings at 19:45 in Café Sport (Leuven) or on Sunday afternoons at 13:45 in Sport & Squash Club De Vaart (Wilsele). Please check the Leuven Monthly page for exact dates.
Rules
Each monthly tournament comprises three matches: two 7-point matches and one 5-point match. Just playing already earns you points, and winning even more so. Want to know the details? Then check out the tournament rules.
We follow the backgammon and tournament rules of the European Backgammon Federation as adopted by BGFed.be. In particular, we play with the doubling cube and the clock.
