De Backgammon Club Leuven kondigt met genoegen de 7e editie aan van de Leuven Backgammon Open, dit jaar op zondag 29 november 2015. Met trots stellen we jullie een nieuwe locatie voor: Brasserie De Abdijmolen in Heverlee (Leuven). De Abdijmolen is ideaal gelegen aan de rand van het Leuvense stadscentrum en op de domeinen van de prachtig gerestaureerde Abdij van Park. Naast het traditionele toernooi (Zwitsers formaat, 6 rondes, 5-punt matches) geeft Michel Lamote (Brugge) ook dit jaar weer een entertainende en leerzame voordracht. De club met de meeste overwinningen wint de Fonske Challenge. Voor de gevorderde speler organizeren we een PR competitie genaamd Vesalius challenge. Meer details hieronder. Le Backgammon Club Leuven asbl est fière d’annoncer la 7è édition du Leuven Backgammon Open, qui aura lieu le dimanche 29 novembre 2015 dans la très belle Brasserie de Abdijmolen à Heverlee (Leuven). La Brasserie Abdijmolen se situe juste à l’extérieur du périphérique de Louvain, dans le magnifique domaine de l’Abbaye du Parc (Abdij van’t Park). En plus du tournoi traditionnel (format suisse, 6 tours, matches à 5 points), il y aura un exposé instructif et sans doute amusant de Michel Lamote (Brugge). Il y aura également le Fonske Challenge pour le club ayant le plus grand nombre de victoires. Et enfin une nouveauté pour les joueurs avancés qui pourront se comparer dans une nouvelle compétition basée sur leur niveau de performance (PR: Performance Rating) appelée Vesalius challenge. The Backgammon Club Leuven is pleased to announce the 7th Leuven Backgammon Open on Sunday, 29th November 2015 in a fantastic new venue: the Brasserie de Abdijmolen in Heverlee (Leuven). The Abdijmolen is ideally situated on the outskirts of Leuven City Centre in Heverlee next to the beautifully restored abbey Abdij van Park. Besides the traditional tournament (Swiss format, 6 rounds, 5-point matches), there’ll be an entertaining and instructive backgammon lecture by Michel Lamote (Brugge). The club scoring the most victories will win the Fonske Challenge. Advanced players can join the new PR competition called Vesalius challenge. For details, see below. We’re looking forward to your participation!

Main tournament

Swiss format, 6 rounds, 5-point matches.
Clock: Bronstein, 10 minutes bank time plus 12 seconds per move.

Fonske challenge

Fonske is the name of the statue of the book-reading, beer-spilling student at the Rector De Somerplein in the city of Leuven. Following the example of the ‘Brugse Zotten’, Fonske challenges backgammon clubs in Belgium to show what they are worth and compete for a box of chocolate ‘Fonskes’, in addition to eternal fame and glory. Vesalius challenge

Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564) was a Brabançon anatomist starting his career at the University of Leuven. He is celebrated for his contributions to the study of human anatomy, based on the dissection of human bodies. In the same way, we will subject your matches to a scrupulous post mortem analysis carried out by the sharpest electronic knife available. The more accurately you play, the more you can gain. [Rules Vesalius challenge]

Lunch lecture

During the lunch break, Michel Lamote, a top-player from Brugge, will give an instructive and entertaining backgammon lecture.

• Coffee cups with club logo and appropriate text for the 3 laureates of main tournament;
• Box of chocolate ‘Fonskes’ for the winner of the Fonske challenge;
• Quality second-hand backgammon book;

Registration

Please register by the online registration form.

Registration fee:

• €25 if paid not later than November 15
• €27 if paid not later than November 26
• €30 if paid on the day of the tournament

Included in the fee:

• At arrival: coffee, tea, juice, water, viennoiseries
• Lunch: soup, sandwiches, coffee
• Participation in the main tournament and the Fonske challenge
• Lunch lecture
